Cat Napkin Rings, various makers and nationalities, 19C/20C, silver and other metals.
Ah, the Cat Napkin Rings. These seem to multiply in the cupboard, but at least the genetic pool is pure cat. These objects are typical Victoriana: cliché, mass-produced, and generally unattractive. But, they are cats, so here they are. I have passed on the really hideous ones, typically of the “cat being attacked by a child/dog/passer-by, etc.” genre. Having learned from the cane experience, I have been more discriminating, but have still managed to collect a few dozen. Every so often, I have a Cat Tea Party for some of my catty (ailurophile) friends, and we employ these as—you guessed it—holders for cat-napkins!
